História da Violência
In the Editorial field, merely reading a synopsis isn't enough for a designer to bring a book to life. Their role is vital in creating an attractive and, of course, functional product. An example of this was my academic project where I redesigned the cover of Édouard Louis's fantastic book.
In 'História da Violência (History of Violence)' there's a pivotal scene where the author discovers the harsh reality of a violent rape, as opposed to merely odd behavior from his partner. This moment, where the assailant violently wraps a red scarf around his neck, marks a turning point in the narrative, shaping the story from that poignant and traumatic event.
For this reason, I decided to depict this scene on the book cover, using contrasting colors that semiotically evoke a sense of repulsion, aiming to highlight the intensity and shocking nature of the book. Regarding typography, I drew inspiration from traditional crime reports, symbolizing investigation and revelation.
